Lend a Helping Hand

Support the Center for Puppetry Arts with your time! A wide range of volunteer opportunities is available. We welcome anyone 16 and up with a variety of skills and backgrounds. Click here to download the Volunteer Application.

Museum Greeter/Information Desk
Job Description and FAQ

Volunteers will greet visitors, show them where to go, and answer questions about the Center.

Hours:
Tuesdays-Fridays 9:30-1:00
Saturdays 10:30- 2:00
Sundays 12:30-3:00

Qualifications/Attributes Sought
Works well with children and adults
Outgoing personality
Problem solving skills

2 days shadowing at the docent desk

Museum Docent
Volunteers will serve the Center for Puppetry Arts by conducting tours for both school aged children and adults. These tours cover our main exhibit, Puppets: The Power of Wonder as well as our Behind-the-scenes tour.

Hours:
Varies
Tours may be scheduled at any time from Wednesday-Sunday

Works well with children and adults
Outgoing personality

Training
5 specialized sessions, including giving a mock tour

Create-A-Puppet Workshops
Volunteers will work in the Education Department, assisting with material prep, as well as helping the instructors with the students and patrons in the workshops.

Hours:
Tuesday-Friday 9:30-1:30
Saturday 10:00-5:00 (2 hr. or 4 hr. shifts)
Sunday 12:00-5:00 (2 hr. or 4 hr. shifts)

Qualifications/Attributes
Works well with children
Enjoys crafts

Training
Work with classroom instructor to learn how the workshops are done and how to help patrons build the puppet.

Library
Volunteers will catalog books in the library and enter them into a database. The current library project involves reorganizing the books by subject.

Hours:
Anytime Monday-Friday between the hours of 9:30 and 5:00

Qualifications/Attributes
Organized
Detail oriented
Good with data entry and cataloging

Training
1 session to learn how to catalog the library. Further training if needed.

Evening Events
Volunteers will work an evening event, either our quarterly Patron Parties or evening events in our New Direction Series (adult shows). Jobs vary for evening performances and may include the following: greeting people as they arrive, assisting with house managing during the show, serving drinks, working puppet workshop, and set-up/clean-up before and after the event.

Hours:
Patron Parties 6:00-8:00
NDS Shows Wednesday-Saturday 6:30-8:00
Sundays 4:00-7:00

Outgoing
Able to work in a fast-paced environment

Birthday Parties
Volunteers will assist the Birthday Coordinator with making sure that the birthday party groups know where they are going, that everything is set-up for them, and that the whole event runs smoothly.

Hours:
Weekends - times vary

Qualifications/Attributes
Works well with children and adults
Organization and event coordinating skills
Likes to have fun

Shadow 2 birthday parties with Birthday Party Coordinator.

Office Work/Data Entry
Volunteers will assist with mailings and data entry using a program called PastPerfect, as well as other office jobs around the Center.

Hours:
Anytime Monday-Friday 9:30-5:00

Qualifications/Attributes
Organized
Detail oriented
Knowledge of computer programs such as Word and Excel

On the job training
